Hi All

Any advice here greatly appreciated.

I am slowly attempting to put my mini back together.
Just pulled out some parts from storage and came across the drive shafts and stuff.

What is wrong with this picture?

One of the bits that the uni joint bolts onto has a cap on the end the other doesnt?
Is this going to cause me problems? My guess is yes.
Do I need to get a new one, or can I weld something on to act as a cap?
If I need to get another one... anybody got a spare laying around in Brissie?
Was really hoping to get all these back in the car over the weekend.

PS. What is the bit that the drive shaft slides into and that the uni joint bolts onto actually called?

Hi Nathan,
It would be best and easiest to cut a thin disc from steel and tack weld it in. It is just a cap to stop greese geting out and dirt in.
Those two look to be in good condition, not damaged by the uni U bolts flogging them out therefore worth repairing.
Can help you out if you can get it to me when you pick up the lifting bracket.

Knocking the end cover out was a popular rallyboy mod as you could slide the flange much further back down the driveshaft if you needed to replace the drive coupling - saved breaking the top ball joint. You can do the same with Hardy Spicer couplings as well.

You can buy a steel welch plug the correct size and weld it in place

I should have mentioned this before, Make sure that you grease the inside of the couplings and the splines on shafts before replacing,
