Could be the PO lucky brass antique coin :? I suggest you put it back in through the oil cap so the engine can absorb it's luckiness   .

I think Scott's on the money ....

Nick , what do you know of the cars service history , motor or gearbox ever been changed that you know of ? One of my many mini blunders was not stripping and checking a gearbox after the motor had dropped the center main thrust washers and I missed a chunk of the thrust washer that was then ground up by the gearbox and run through the oil stuffing the engine bearings ....

There are a few parts in the engine that look like that , thrust washers are one of them so keep an ear out for any strange noises and if it seems to be making more noise and vibrating more than before see if you can move the bottom pulley at all (if it drops the thrust washers the crank and pulley can move in and out a couple of mm , or at least mine did  ) . It could also be a bit of random metal that found it's way into the oil filler cap or oil , or even something that was sitting in the oil tray you didn't notice beforehand . Basically keep an ear out for any noises for a while anyway as you can save money by shutting it down before it does major damage .

Might pay to take them into a mini mechanic and see if they recognise them , how big are they (thickness as well) ?

They could be the Copper washers that sit under the sun gears in the diff.
