rebuilding an SU is really easy unless your throttle shaft is worn.

I too would like to know who could tune my mini?

John Hurley at Kent Town Autotune is very clever with SU's and Webers. Has a dyno too.

do not take your mini there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   the grumpy bastard took $1000 of my money for 2 visits and it fouled plugs after both times!

then i took my mini to
jason armstrong at dave armstrong motors and it runs better than it ever has. $82.50!!!

Hi,
We can tune/rebuild SU's, but once it gets to on road we normally use/suggest kent town dyno, we have had numerous minis tuned at Kent town, with no real dramas....Maybe spaceboy got him on a bad day(s).
He has always done a good job for us, BUT if you can get the same tuning for $82.50 you would be silly to go anywhere elese.

Contrary to my previous post, I only mentioned Kent Town as I know of many mini people that have had their cars dynoed there.

I too swear by Jason of Dave Armstrong Motors. He builds all of my mini engines including my Group N motor, and tunes it all there with no dyno. His Group N mini is the fastest in SA, and right up there nationally. Pretty good advert I reckon.

I've had good and bad experiences with Kent Town. When Bob B used to run it things were fine and I got a couple of S dissy's regraphed there.

However, more recently (with JH at the helm) they were unable to diagnose an off idle stumble on my Rover V8 on the dyno which for an $800 tuning session should have been fixed. The customer service was, shall we say, less than impressive.

I later discovered it was an incompatibiltiy issue between the Lumention ignition module and the Accel coil - the simple solution was to swap the coil for another one which the Lumention liked better.

I had my Mini tuned at Kent Town auto tune.

He knows his SU stuff. Not so great with boosted SU's though, things seem to work very differently when there's a supercharger there.

After tuning (which cost half what spaceboy spent...) it foulled the plugs on the way home and had to be towed. But after a phone call, he asked me to bring my SU back in, there was an issue with the float valve and it was shaking or something like that.

After it was fixed I put the newly fixed carby back on my car, it ran great after having to reset the idle mixture.

Later I broke the idler gear, and had the gearbox rebuilt. I couldn't get the car started (ignition issues) and trailered the car to Armstrong Motors, he set it up.

It misfired all the way home, I drove the car the next day no problems and no problems since  !

In summary,

Jason Armstrong is the best, most honest and nicest Mini mechanic I've ever met and spent money at. Probably the only time I've ever been satifisfied with handing over my hard earned money.

Kent Town Auto Tune, SU and weber specialist. Really a carby tuning guy, don't take the car there with ignition issues or any other simple grumbles as that is not what he does it WILL cost you lots of money while he farts around not dynoing your car. But if everythings great and you've jsut put a weber on that then he'd be great.

i should say the first time my car went to KTAT it was naturally aspirated.
So the fact it was later boosted has nothing to do with it.

totally agree about jason armstrong.
