I a trying to identify this gear box 22A1288 Number stamped R6011/4 with X1 under it. It has number 230 overstamped to 240 on it. It has hardyspicer uni drives fitted. The diff is 15/62. It has a 1275 eng 12yd on top. |

My book says it's an 850/998 with B type gears, magic wand. ![]() If so it must have had a fair bit of grinding inside to fit a 12YD (Morris 1100S) 1275 motor. Hardy Spicers can be fitted into any box, provided you have S diff shafts and side covers. That diff is a 4.133, maybe it's out of a Moke? |

The 4.133 diff is the right one for a 12YD engine. ![]() |

![]() Did the Morris 1100S ever get Hardy Spicers (apart from the auto version)? ![]() |

I have seen a couple of 3 synchro non-S boxes over the years with Hardy Spicers, but they used 850 output shafts and special flanges not S ones. I suspect somebody back then was making a conversion kit.... |

This box has the "rubber sandwich" plate between extension housing and box. The diff has cooper s type shafts and uni's. I believe that the only std.mini boxes with uni's were, mini matic,BMC moke 1098 and cooper s from eng no.1918. The moke had 4 synchro box. cooper s 3 synchro. The subframe it came out off has set of 998 cooper discs . It is probably a mix and match |

gearboxes with this number could be fitted to the Mini, Mini Moke or Morris 1100, It is a 3 speed synchro type, some mokes were fitted with steel unis, it is also possible that these have been fitted at some point, if it has the sandwich plate type mounting check front of the gearbox at the top left hand side (looking from front of gearbox ) just below where it mounts to the motor, If it has 3 to 4 numbers stamped there it is probably off a Morris 1100 S If it is An 1100 S (The clutch housing, if it is the original housing will have a matching number ) Stamped near the starter motor Hole, Regards John Smidt |
