From all the threads i've read, i'm just a little confused about the need to stop it from firing on the initial starter cranking?

so i need to delay the spark until the flywheel is turning? then turn the spark on and hey presto no issues?

can someone describe what the toggle switches are doing that are spoken about in the threads?

Unlike a Lucas points dizzy, a Pulsar (Hitachi) electronic dizzy can fire at zero rpm. This means it can fire on the first piston upstroke, before the Lucas starter has built up any momentum. It can kick back and stall the starter, indeed on my 1360 (which runs and needs 16° static advance) it has broken 3 Lucas starter pinions. :x
The kill switch I have is in the 12V+ wire going from ignition switch to the coil- I turn it off, turn the key to crank it then flick the switch on with my other hand, aviation style. 8)

that's explained it easily, do you run a relay kill, or the actual positive running through the switch?

is this a problem for gemini starters as well or not, because they are pre-engaged?

thats what I have done mate, ]

I have a toggle swtich that lights up when its switched on.
I just crank it a couple times and then flick the switch.

I spose it would come in handy to if something crap its self. Kinda like an Emergency Stop button. Is probly quicker to mash at a switch with your hand than it is to turn a key.

I also have one for the fuel pump, there cool I reakon.

Got me thinking here - what sort of time delay are we talking about? Should be able to knock up a delay circuit to close a relay after a short time from hiting the starter button.

I thought I would have this issue when I put one on my last Cooper S engine, I didn't have any problem at all (winter or summer). Timing was at the standard 5 degrees..
