 Post subject: To RH tank or not???

Hi, my Mini project is a 997 Cooper being restored, but as I do not have the original engine, it is getting a "S" 1275 engine (also 7.5" brakes). It is being restored to retain its Cooper identity, 100 mph speedo, original colours. But I do have a RH tank which I could install, but I do I do it??? I do like having plenty of range between fills, but don't want to turn the car into a "S" copy.

Oh the dilemmas!

carry some spare fuel or devise an extra tank that does not require cutting holes (maybe a fuel cell that fills your main tank via an electric fuel pump)

Another option if you are going to step out on the highway a little, is to get a long range tank as fitted to the Oz 1275 LS and all rover vehicles from the late 70s onwards. They carry and extra 10 litres and need no mods at all. They will go straight in.

I had a cooper in the same guise once...love the sliding windows...

I would sell the right hand tank and use the cash to by an appropriate engine to keep it original, as it will be worth more in the long run...
But maybe my philosophy is flawed as i seem to be the only one putting an 850 back in an 850 :lol:

In 1972 I put a second tank in my first car, a 997 Cooper because it was my only car and I wanted the range (also S tanks were cheap then). I would leave it stock these days.

Worth quite a lot of money, which as people said, will offset purchase of LS/rover tank and/or original cooper motor.
