Hey guys, just wondering if you can still buy turret panels for minis?
Is there any difference to the clubman shell to the rover type? and lastly are they spot welded or seam welded.
Cheers, Bunyip.

They are resistance seam welded, not spot welded.
I don't think you can buy them now, easiest way to change one is cut through the pillars and match it.

Plenty of s/h roofs (rooves) about, just hack one and 1/2 the pillars out of an unwanted Mini.
Roundy or Clubby, no matter really. Roof is roof...

YES!

roofz ain't roofz... at least for UK minis - we're safe with Australian minis, they all had the same profile, but...

Image

the angle of the pillars changed in UK when they brought in the MK 3 shell (ADO 20). They raked the windscreen back further, and made the rear windscreen more upright

I believe the roof panel is the same, but the "turret" as an assembled unit is different from a post '68 UK shell to any Aussie shell

that picture is the only reference to it that I've ever seen - it is in Rob Golding's "MINI After 25 Years" (and 30, 35 etc. I guess as they're basically reprints)

Next time you're at a show, line up an aussie car and a Rover, and you'll see it

Not saying there aren't differences.... I don't know...

but those photos will have been taken from different angles/ reference points.... exagerating any differences....

The clubman looks to be fairly central - while the round nose has been taken from further towards the back...

um what is resistance seam welded kev?

is it where they squish 2 layers of metal between 2 electrodes and then a charge flows through it thus melting the 2 panels together?

Coz thats what I do at work and we call it spot welding....

I dunno......

It is the same idea, but instead of "spot" welding, the electrodes are wheels. Look at the welded seam around your fuel tank, it's got the wheel marks from the seam welding.
It would have to be a big arse supply to continuously supply that kind of juice..

Same physics, but a different enough technique to get it's own name.
