Hi Fellow Mini owners, I have a bit of a problem, I am putting together a new engine, which is a mix of new and old bits, however I am cranking it over with no plugs in it to bring the oil pressure up and I cant get anything. When nothing came through on the gauge, I took out the sender unit in the block and no oil cam out, when I crank it with nothing in the thread no oil comes out....So I figure it is not the gauge.... How long do I need to crank for? Can anyone help? Thanks |

did you put any grease or such in the oil pump when assembling? if not, you will need to reverse prime the oil pump.. is the engine in car? if so.. remove the oil return line (top left of block, comes from filter), and pour a small amount of oil down into the gallery... put the car in 4th gear, and push backwards. the oil should disappear down through the pump. refill and repeat several times. replace oil return line, and then crank. hey presto, oil pressure. if the engine is out of car, you just have to turn it over manually in reverse direction to normal operation, instead of putting car in gear and pushing. |

Did you remember to fit the O-ring between the g/box and the block? |

thanks Guys, Yes the o-ring is fitted, I will try the reverse prime method. Thanks I will let you how I go. It does look like I will have to get some new cv's and connect the driveshafts. Thanks |

Wondering if this help worked? I too am struggling for any oil pressure cranking a new engine. I have - Filled filter to the top - Primed pump by doing the reverse thing. - Taken plugs out I'm still not getting any oil pressure, or any sign of oil at the pressure gauge adaptor. Is it possible that the oil pressure relief valve is dodgy?? Can that have much of an effect? |

After you prime the pump, don't tighten the oil pipe's banjo bolt right up where it goes into the block. leave it 1/2 a turn loose. There is often an air lock in there as the pump picks the oil up. Crank until oil (not bubbles) flows out around the bolt, THEN tighten it. |

In place of an oil pipe I have oil hose running from top hole to oil filter housing. Its not long but it does go up slightly before it goes down. Could that have an effect? Upwards pressure on the pump? Also could a dodgy oil pressure relief valve have an effect on the oil pressure? Is it worth swapping out? Maybe not issues, just thinking outloud because we tried a lot of things today to get pressure. Cheers Doc |

If you have a hose (I do too) loosen the nut where it goes onto the block fitting. Doesn't matter that the pipe goes up then down, the air lock is in the pump not the hose. It won't be the relief valve unless it's jammed open (unlikely). |
