Howdy, Ok, I have a new ERA Relay/Fusebox controlling the lights (thats how I bought the car) Its got 6 pins on it. On the bottom it has the following Middle Pin = +ve (Permanent) Left Pin = High Beam Right Pin = Low beam On the top (where the fuses are) it has the following Middle Pin = Earth Left Pin = High Beam (switched) Right Pin = Low beam (switched) Now, my problem is that sometimes my lights wont come on... parkers come on, instrument cluster lights come on just the lights wont!!! Anyhow, got my hands on a H4 conversion set and 2 x 4-pin relays... I can wire up the relays, no prob... Issue is that I can hear my relay come on and off with the switch, but sometimes the +ve wire (permanent) seems not to have any voltage... thats when the lights dont work. So my question is, what the heck does the wiring diagram look like for the light circuit. Am I right that there is a +ve permanent feed to the light relay? If there is, then I might have an issue in that actual wire (or the other end of it that connects to the solenoid (I presume, have not traced yet) Thanks, Peter |

relays have a constant power feed usually of the solenoid have seen them of the fuse box or regulator if fitted it then should have the the from the switch the wire to the light and a earth wire the earths must be good so strip back a bit of paint and use a spring washer on most relay there are four numbers on the bottom with the pins usually they are 30 85 86 and 87 30 is the constant power 85 is the wire going to the light 86 is the wire from the switch 87 is the earth inside the relay there is a magnet which when the switch is turned on (to turn on the lights) activates and closes a bridge between the power feed and the wire to the light. im no good at drawing but i hope that helps with what you were after |

Thanks, ill have a look tomorrow and see whats going on, my problem is not with the new relays, thats all fine, its the New Era relay thats the issue... or actually the 12v +ve feed going 'into' the new Era relay... sometimes I get no 12v power... so might be on the solenoid end. Ill update with results. Peter |

Is it possible your +ve feed to the Era relay comes from the dodgy lucas fusebox? |

Definately sounds like the feed wire itself and not the New ERA relay. relays usually either work or they don't. Intermittent issues would be fairly uncommon I would think. I have the same setup. I had a dodgy one from new (which stumped me for a while because I naturally thought it may have been my wiring as the cause). Once I replaced the relay itself with another new one, I've had no problems since. KB |

also check the light switch or even the high beam switch maybe at fault |
