After 3 months of having Lillee in storage due to moving house, I am driving her again for the first time in what seems like forever. I suddenly notice that my usual drive to work in the mornings and home in the evenning which I usually do in the corolla, people are either more stupid when they see a mini or maybe it's just me...

It's not the fact that they tailgate me, want to overtake me all the time and stuff. That's not what bothers me, but when I am going exactly the speed limit and they still do this is what infuriates me. Lillee is by no means an incapable car so it's not like I have trouble keeping up with traffic or holding it up or anything. I am not sure where this 4WD machoness, must over take mini at all costs business comes from??

40km/h in a school zone you idiots!!!

Last night some dude in a mazda 3 tailgated me on Hill Road so close I could see the brand name on the headlight bulbs. I was going the speed limit. Got to the corner and left him 30 car lengths behind, while still under 60km/h. Just cause it's a mini don't mean it aint a pocket rocket...

Hello!? red + mini = fast + quick !  My bonnet stripes alone should be an indicator that I bite!

/end rant

Anyway I am back into minis again after a drought. Lillee's running great, started first tme after being parked for 3 months on really old fuel. I'd like to see a modern car do that with all those alarms and steroes leaking voltage

I don't think I will have that much luck. I need to go pull my Mini out of storage this weekend, after a year. I think it may take more than a simple turn of the key. Then again, some reassembly is required before use....

What have you done to your poor mini??

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. For about a year now! So I have to pull it out of my parents' garage and bring it around to my house for an engine transplant. I have to take it easy on the drive over, as it was laid up due to a temporary steering rack failure (that and another blown engine). I'll be plotting a route with a minimum of left hand turns.

:? Be careful... anything steering = Job for experts IMHO, you don't want to muck around there

Ah, it's good to see you back, and blowing some cobwebs off the beast.. 8) :D , mate , you should try driving a truck, everyone wants to get in front of you, regardless of the speed your doing or how much distance there is in front!!! .Having said that there must be a hell of alot of good drivers out there otherwise we would be having accidents every second. :)

Yup I experienced this, even made a thread about it:

The behaviour is not even subtle, it's blatently in your face. As if they want you to pull over and give them a bow or something...

Yep I will be taking it easy, believe you me. Backroads all the way. The steering is currently working fine, but I will be driving at speeds that don't take turning left for granted.

Nice read... So I am not going mad!

I usually don't give a airborn act of sexual intercourse about these idiots, other than the fact that they put me and Lillee in danger... Otherwise I usually pull aside and let them though if I could.

Its no different up here. I think its just the fact its a small car, people automatically think its going to be slow so they try to get past.

Canberra is not as bad - we have more roundabouts to lose them on.

There are a lot of stupid people on the roads these days. They drive quicker but they don't drive smarter.

It's amazing how many people think it's alright to tailgate a mini, however because they're so intent on staying on my tail, they're not looking ahead to see what's around them.

For the third day in a row, I've been tailgated in a 50km/h zone right up to the same roundabout by three different imbeciles. I'm smart enough to check out the lie off the land, who's on the roundabout and who's approaching it. I drop it into third and speed through.

I've left all three imbeciles this week stopped at the roundabout because they weren't paying attention.

I have stopped my car in the lane because of someone driving too close behind (about 1m). They got the picture once I sat there for a minute.
