Didnt have a REAL good look but they look like Angel eyes with HIDs in them... You can get a kit (I will have one for sale in about a month) to go from sealed beams to H4 - the actual light body (glass, etc) and comes with H4's (standard) Then you can get a HID kit, with the bulbs and unit into that. Its illegal to fit aftermarket HID kits though, but its also a grey area. Be prepared to get your chequebook out though mate, HID kits are about $400 for just the bulbs and ballasts. Then you need the actual light to put it into (the kit above that I mention for H4's is around $100 You can get cheaper, but not sure on quality. Pete |

Yeah, you can buy them cheaper, but like I said, depends on the kit, warranty, quality, etc etc ... ebay flogs alot of 'cheap stuff' but Im not arguing that, you certainly can get HID kits on ebay for peanuts. Pete |

http://www.webridestv.com/photos/vtec-mini-5161 does any one know of any conversions kits similar to what is in this? The lights above are definitely his own creation. He did a write up on it in the minifinity site. He's pretty clued on from some of his work logs I've read, so they are probably better than what you can buy.. The pics of his stereo are old though, it's a lot cleaner now up the front. One of the best set ups I've seen in a mini. |

I managed to get two H1 HID globes with ballasts for my Cibie Oscar driving lights for about $70 delivered from ebay. As for quality, I've got them on my Citroen and with them on, i can longer see the high beams ![]() Not sure about the legalities in main headlights but in driving lights I highly recommend them |

Xenon high intensity discharge, the purple looking lights you get on Bmw's and mercedes now. Much, much brighter than normal lights but they require a fitting kit because they run at (correct me if I'm wrong someone!) very high voltage |

Go from the stock sealed beams to H4's and wow, thats plenty! Put in H4 +50% brighter/whiter and more wow... HID's are HID's though ![]() Pete |

Yes projector type lenses, but HID... ![]() http://www.minifinity.com/distribution/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=60051&p=663569#p663569 Quote: just to let you know you can now get hold of hid bulbs and balasts that will fit standard h4 headlamp holes. Quote: it's definitely much easier, but it's not as safe as true hid projection system.
first, when doing a retro with bulbs only, you have to consider about optics. an hid capsule does not align properly with the filament of a halogen bulb. unless it has been rebased/engineered to do so, which most kits aren't. with this is mind, the light pattern will be altered and thus cause glare to oncoming traffic. What I have said before but in proper tech talk... |

FYI not legal in NZ, unsure about Australia, but I believe you cannot legally retrofit them to vehicles here because of their outstanding brightness. Those that have them fitted also have self levelling suspension to (amongst other things) stop their lights from blinding other drivers. |
