I have a standard 1974 Clubman S with the three gauge cluster including the inductive loop style tacho. The printed circuit board has a minor repair on the dash light circuit, but it all works - tacho, gauges, lights, etc.

However, the tacho needle flickers when I turn the parkers on, and if the ignition is turned on, engine stopped, and I turn the parkers on the tacho goes full scale – 8,000 RPM with the engine stopped?

Any ideas what may be causing this, or is it standard, being related to the inductive loop?

What do you mean by inductive loop tacho? Is it the stock tacho or have you put a smiths tacho in it's place?

There were two different types of tacho fitted to the Clubbie dash, the inductive loop was the earlier one.
They were both made by Smiths.

Ahh ok.

I would take a look at the back of the tacho first, it sounds like one of the sense wires for the tachometer is contacting the park light copper tracks on the back of the tacho. A dc onto the tacho input will cause the needle to go full deflection.

Make sure the connectors on the back of the printed cct card to the tacho are isolated from the inputs and see if it continues. If it does then remove the park light positive feed to the dash lights and once again see if it continues. It is a cross feed os some sort, it could be anywhere, but I would guess that the printed cct is your most likely contender at this point.
