As ive just arrived from the UK and dont know the market here, who have you insured your minis with and any recommendations?

Shannons on both my cars. They are a classic car insurance company so understand Minis. But they can also do modern cars, bikes, home and contents, probably more.

Yeah, Shannons are very popular for minis because they are self-modelled 'insurance for enthusiasts' and they understand things like modifcations, imported Rovers and the like. They also have a good agreed value scheme and seem to understand that a 20 or 30 year old tiny car can be worth as much as a brand new one...

For me I had no other choice (amongst the major insurers, at least) as no-one else would insure my Rover. We've now got our main family car and our home & contents with them too.

Go with Shannons as not only are they a good insurer but they support local motorsport.

Hi Weevel, yeah finity was great back in the day, it seemed to all died down now though which is a shame. Thanks for the welcome though, im sure i will be on here a lot more now im here in Aus so you made the leap over the pond the same as me then?! seems like a good one so far.

Shannons sounds like the one then, ive got a quote for agreed value at $1109 per year, how does that sound?

sounds expensive to me - but I'm in the country.... I pay ~$250 for my '70 Cooper S

Ring Vigil Insurance, screw them down on price, then ring Shannons back and tell them what Vigil offered you - they'll match it

I checked in on minifinity earlier in the year and it looked pretty bad, all the technical library and stuff had gone and the forums seemed to have been wiped and re-started.

I came over almost 3 years ago, brought my Rover with me, even though it was almost another year before i finally got it registered.

From memory, my insurance is somewhere just under the $1000 mark (Agreed value, 1990 Rover Cooper, 1293cc engine but no other mods, I think I may have upped the excess to get the price down a bit though) and we're in inner-west Sydney, not a crime hotspot (i think/hope), but certainly not rural.

I'm with Shannons for the S (club plates) & the Moke. They paid out without any quibbles for a new windscreen on the Moke when I forgot to secure the bonnet after checking the oil & #1 son drove off into the sunset

On the other hand, I heard of a case where a guy waited 3 months for a payout on his written-off 200SX.

Other experiences anyone?

Vigil for me - agreed value, wreck retention, low excess (for cars over 30), 1 windscreen replacement per year, unlimited k's so long as you don't drive it to work regularly, they know classic cars too and the price is unbeatable (went up a bit as I moved to another suburb) but still only just over $300

But off course shannos are great too.

Try GIO veteran and vintage cheaper than Shannons better value for your car/ shannons would not increase the value of my car after puting a lot of money into a new engine GIO were more than happy to and the only thing different , as far as I know, is the windscreen cover.

blimey, just called vigil and they came out at $370... amazingly cheaper..... a little more excess ie $500 but thats agreed value too.

am i missing something here?
