Post subject: | Numbers - Head |
Hey, Ive been slowly pulling my engines extra apart and my 998cc has 096 1293P and the 1098cc has 1015/10238 on it. I was wondering why he 998cc has less numbers on it?Is this just the way it goes? Thanks Blake |

Is that 998 number a Police-issued restamp? |

That 998 looks a bit like a "police" number. That is a re-stamped number issued by the rego authorities after the right checks have been made. Normally they have a single letter at the front of the number to indicate state. (NSW = N, Vic = V, etc.) I wonder if the 0 is in fact a Q? ![]() The 1100 number 1015 is a late Australian made 1100 from about 73/74. ![]() |

Yep I'm with M1100, I've had 3 police numbered motors. I call a Q too. Ist letter is state, 2nd 2 digits are year, the rest of the numbers are a numerical sequence, and they all have a P at the end. |

Thanks for that. I also just got these numbers off my cylinder heads i have lying around - 12a1456 - 12(6?)202 im not sure if that is a 6 or G im guessing maybe G but im not sure its really hard to read. What do these numbers mean? And if going to be getting a 1275cc built for me by Graham Russell, would any of these heads be worth keeping? Thanks Blake |

First one is a 998 head. 12G202 heads are worth keeping (ie don't toss away), they are the next best thing to a 12G295 on a smallbore and can be ported by GR or others to go as well or better. ![]() Neither is much good to you on a 1275 though. |
