I know it is a hard desision but I really fell that the best option for you is that you just give me the Moke.

Guys, I've had Mokesta the yellow moke since she was 3 mokes in the early 90s. She's been on the road since 99. Since the kids came along I drive her about 5 times a year and cover less than 500 km. If we didn't have the muster next weekend it would be another 3 month gap between drives. Given my desire to go on the track I bought an MX-5 and love thrashing it on the track. They are so reliable that the only between track day maintenance is a brake bleed and tyre rotation. With my other 2 mini shells going nowhere and no time to give Mokesta the maintenance she deserves I am considering selling. At $600 for rego and $300 for insurance she's costing me several $ per km for the few times I use her. Unlike the 5 club, the MOCQ doesn't do any track driving and the club runs are a cliquey affair with mostly talking and stuff all driving so I cut them loose this year. I don't know how much I'd get for Mokesta and I couldn't bear to sell to someone who wouldn't take due care. Frankly the sale price isn't going to make a change to my financial situation. While the 5 is fun I don't love the car like I do Mokes and minis. It's just a car that happens to be a fantasticly cheap, reliable and safe track car. The entire car is worth about the price of a reliable and suitably powerful mini engine/box re-build. If the engine does go bang it's about $1,500 for a replacement. So, what should I do? I figure I have a few options: (1) keep her registered and insured, do the minimum preventative maintenance and the odd drive (ie same as now) (2) sell, put the $ on the mortgage and reap the browny points from the financial controller. Spend more time with the kids. (mokes aren't much good for family drives with under 4s) (3) de-reg and de-insure her, fill up her innards with anti-corrosion stuff, throw a cover over her and wait until the boy is old enough to come for a drive in 5 years or so. (4) sell and immediately put the cash into the mini shell so the suzuki mini can finally see the light of day. Build that car to have 4 seats with good belts. She'll be at the Muster on Sunday so come & have a chat if you are desperately seeking a Moke and think you can convince me to part with her... Opinions?? M |

Option #3, without a doubt. My kids (all under 5) love the Mini, but you should have seen their reaction to their first Moke last year on the way to Watto's Big Day Out. I'd get one and store it just for them. Besides, you know you'll regret selling her, regardless who she goes to. [edit] Actually, I think Morris has the right idea -- give Mokesta to my kids

This says it all fo r me. I sold My Moke 10 years ago...and I kill myself now...drive it more

option whatever number,,, park it in my shed in Byron Bay & i will hire it out to rich yuppys & European back packers & whenever you`re down that way i`ll let you take it out for a spin
Now that really is the best option by far i`d say

As the Saying goes "Use it before you loose it" at least you will make someting from it and you let many others enjoy it too. It will never pay for itself though as no one will drive it like they own it which will keep Matt busy and out of trouble while he is in Byron. |

Either keep using it occasionally as you are now (is it old enough for club rego yet or is it too modified with the roll cage ?) or park it up on blocks . Mine have been put into long term storage several times (pretty much in there at the moment with a 5 month old and a 3 year old ) as there's no way I could sell them . Then again , I'm looking at how they can appreciate too ... |

I'd be keeping it. Everything passes along a continum that starts at new where it's wonderful then becomes 'old' but useful then crap then junk and the temptation from old to junk is to get rid of it but if held onto it becomes 'interesting' then valuable. Trick is to hold it long enough

Option 1 if you can or Option 3. Minis store quite well so I don't see a problem with this, start her up once in a while to stop from seizing. Don't sell her, you will regret it to your grave... |

Option 1, I wouldn't do option 3 because in 5 years who knows what sort of loops you will have to go through to register a car at least 30 years old, The rego and ins are costing about $20.00 a week so maybe offset that with something else, buy second hand clothes for the kids
I probably do less than 1000k's in my moke in a normal year but would never sell it, just to much fun espically on a nice sunny day, my 4 yo boy loves going for rides in the moke and our new baby (does anyone have old babies?) had his first ride at 4 months. So Dont sell it
Just drive it more
