#1 is nearest the radiator....

our motors aren't in front to back, they're in sideways, the front of the motor is the radiator end

Hahaha
Robbie I thought about that just the other day. My thought - "I think I put the numbered leads on Robbies car on in the wrong order!!"

My defence - renaults number them the other way.

Ah, but on a Renault, #1 is the flywheel end.
At least they are consistent, the old Renault 750 from the `50s was like this too.
It's called Gallic charm... :P

yeah.... but what sort of a knob would drive anything from across the channel?

When Citroen were building Traction Avant's, they had 2 factories, one building them metric, the other imperial - knobs

Best be careful Simon.....there are more French car or former French car drivers on here than first meets the eye....

I have owned

1975 Renault 12 GL
1976 Renault 16 TS
1976 Renault 12 XL
1977 Renault 12 XL
1990 Renault 21 Marseilles (we don't talk about this one)
1978 Citroen CX 2400 Pallas C-Matic
1994 Citroen Xanita SX 1.8
1996 Citroen Xantia VSX 2.0

And just for good measure a

1990 Daihatsu Charade sedan (we don't talk about this one either)
1976 Triumph 2500TC

Sigh......now we have Westinghouse and Olli.....

I would never call myself a french car enthusiast, but I have owned a Citroen BX and 2 Peugeot's a 205 & a 405.

Loved all three of them for very different reasons.
