Ok. Ive got an old 67 van thats SLOWLY getting a ground up resto.
Now i'm up to brakes (not far up from ground yet am i ).
I'm really seriously thinking of bringing some in from mini sport in the uk.
There options are 7.5 std cooper, 7.5 alloy cross drilled, 7.9 alloy vented and cross drilled or 8.4 alloy's.
8.4's are out for me cos i want to stick to 10" wheels.
I know 7.5's in the alloy or standard form will fit in 10's.
But will 7.9's fit in 10's or are they a 12" wheel or bigger brake?

depends on the wheel - unless you can find someone with the wheels you want, and the brakes you want and test them, it's a gamble

SGC on here has 7.5" non vented minispares and has wide offset contessas on them which fit, but the narrow offset contessas don't. I tried some S rims over them, and not a chance, my alloy S copies came close to fitting - nothing a file wouldn't fix in a couple of minutes

also note that there is a lot of distrust for the minisport calipers, apparently they flex and give a poor pedal feel - willy on here had some and didn't think they were safe so replaced them with S calipers (I think)

Ok. 7.9 vented and 7.5 alloy mini sport idea's are out the window.
I'll check mini spares and there prices.
With the modded suzi brakes.... yea ... nah kind of want to stick to well known easy spares options.
But am i wrong in my interpretation of that 1st thread, in saying that 7.5 alloy mini spares brakes wont fit in contessas?
contessa's being knock off not so light minilight's? or are the contessa's the 4 kidney shape cut out wheels?

I love my Mini Spares 4-pot alloy calipers, they're brilliant once set up properly. They fit over standard 7.5" solid discs and take standard Metro pads, once you grind a few mm off the backing plate on the inside corners.

The only downside is the extra fluid volume required to actuate 4 pistons means the pads bite about 1/4-1/3 through the pedal stroke. A bigger master cylinder (> 0.7") would fix that, but that means going Jap which I don't want to do.

As Simon K says, my ROH Contessas fit nicely over the calipers, but aside from those and his S-copy alloys I've not tried any others. Apparently Mambas are a no-go, and Cheviot Jellybeans are a maybe -- I'll have a set of those in a week or two so I can pass judgement then.

Go the 4-pots, they're a little more exxy but well worth it in my view.

I'd shy away from 4 pots - go for cooper s hubs, discs and calipers.
Pay the money and get the right stuff They will fit more 10" wheels, are standard parts and will have more resale value.

I find the brake pedal much too spongy with the mini master cylinder and alloy 4 pots... so i'm going to an .875" bore... which will cost another couple of $100s..

I agree, stick with Cooper S discs and callipers. Add some EBC pads and braided steel hoses and you'll stop ok. That's what I've got on my van with 10 inch Contessa's.

I reckon go the cooper s brakes...
i have 7.9's with metro turbo rotors and calipers, and for the track driving it does i'm just not 100% happy with them. same as willy's 4 pot conversion, we put normal s calipers on that and they finally worked properly.
