Post subject:  Spin on oil filter

As title may sugest has anyone used the Mini spin on oil filter conversion kit from minisport? Does it require anything or just a simple "take old housing off and replace with new one" any info would be good. Im changing over as cartrige filter annoys me.

cheers

Pretty simple, and more convenient.
I vaguely remember some grief with the spacer block when I did mine. Either I left it on, when you're supposed to take it off, or I didn;t put it on when you are. But it was a minor inconvenience that was quickly rectified.

I looked at the same conversion recently but still haven't changed over. The new spin on heads seem to be not as well made as the older (clubman) type. I have been told that some of the spin heads require the filter to be 'overtightened' to enable a suitable seal on the larger o ring. My engine builder has suggested I keep the original system and not to buy the new spin on type until a better type is produced.

I have found that minispares in the UK have a billet version which could be better but is more expensive.

I think I will call John at Miniking and get a second hand one off a clubman.

Make sure you get the mounting studs with it - they are shorter than the cartridge mount type. I picked up a secndhand one then had to track down the right studs.

I just use 2 starter bolts... they are short enough, they don't hit anything inside. 8)

The studs currently in your block are longer than the studs you need with the spin on so you need to make sure that the kit you get has studs with it or you will need to get them as they are shorter. Yes they are the studs you need check the kit to see if they are included.

That's good to know - probably more important if you are buying a secondhand one that you need to know studs are required as well (and gasket)

Yep. I've got 2 of these (billet spin on housings) left for sale if anyone wants to buy them (been very popular!) ($90 inc. postage, c/w gasket). They have the standard size transfer fitting thread on them and no crummy bypass filter.

Basically all the pros of the spin on housing without the cons (crappy gasket sealing area.) They use the original type gasket which is much stronger.

PM for details.

That is a very good price, they are £50 in UK even before you ship it.
They are very Bling, I have one going onto the stroker.
By the time Gafmo (King of Bling) has finished with it, I'll need sunnies to look at it. 8)
