Post subject:  roundie headlight surrounds chrome or stainless

One of my headlight surrounds has either fallen off or been knocked off. Should a 1968/9 Cooper S have chrome or stainless? I have heard both are / were made. I have stainless bumpers but the headlight surrounds are chrome metal. Is the quality of new ones any good?
