I have a 1962 Morris 850 and it is fitted with the clubman wiper motor switch so I was wanting to put in a 2 speed wiper motor. I have a wiper motor from a 1974 clubman a,d one from a 1990 Rover, will either one suit or what is the easiest way of installing one
Just so you can see which side they "park" on.

Something I was looking at myself....

Sadly not so straightforward.

The actual wheel boxes (things wiper arms fit on) have a different number of teeth from the older mini to the clubman... (changed about 68/69?)

So the clubman motor is setup for the 32 - but with the 22 teeth would thus make the arc too big (eg 32/22 is almost 1.5 times greater arc ).
( not quite that simple as arcs are different start with between the different motors - but is close enough to explain the problem!
eg clubman motor has a 105 degree arc -> would become 157 degree arc)

The wheel boxes themselves are physical different sizes (see width in piccies) - so just can't be swapped over either.
(The Tubing might be able to be modified but would have to be measured very carefully and need flaring tool etc (but may be the *simplest* solution))

This was where I got too when I found an old style (square body) 2 speed motor off a Humber Vogue - so should avoid all those issues
(though these are hard to find and thus expensive - but old humbers,triumphs and jags etc may have them)

I don't know about the Rover motors - but think they use the same 32 teeth wheel box - so expect the same sort of problem.
The motors also have a different mounting method - so may need extra holes drilled ???
Whether the tubing is a better fit maybe someone else has some idea???

if you look at the wiper panel on a rover, they have 2 sets of holes - one for (I assume) left hand drive, and one for right hand drive. If you were to get the whole setup from a Rover, you could drill the extra set of holes to mount the whole assembly

however, do a search, because there is a simple electrical mod (adding a resistor AFAIK) to make a single speed wiper motor have 2 speeds

Good ol Dr Mini put up a post to show how to add a variable resistor to a single speed wiper I thought this was a sticky in the HowTo's, but it isnt yet....so after a quick search, here it is.....hope it helps

I've put a Rover wiper motor into my car and it parks to the driver's side like yours.I'm a bit fuzzy on how I did it now.Certainly the tubing needs to be cut to size.I can't remember if I used the Rover wheel boxes ( I think I did but would have to check).Also it may be important to which type of motor the car came off , whether it was LHD or RHD.
Brickworks might be worth a call.

To make it a bit trickier, the PO rebuilt the car using a Clubman as a donor so I'm pretty sure the wiper motor isn't standard as the 3 bolt holes don't line up with the factory holes in the fire wall . Are their any numbers I can get off the motor to tell what it is?

On the cover on the motor there are various numbers etc.

Some of these will be voltage,build dates, part number etc.

If a Mini wiper motor the identifying ones are:

Square body DR3A - early minis

Aust Clubman motor 12AUW
(no piccie but located in same sort of place)


UK post 69-> Rover type 14W



If from a non mini similar numbers should be seen that can help identify it (if a Lucas)

If you use a later Oz round motor, either single speed or Clubby 2 speed, the wipers will do 180° on the screen (like ours) unless you change the wheelboxes too.
Me- I'm going back to the 850 square motor, and resistor+ switch.
