Post subject:  New 12inch tyres,Update 30/10/08

Having had the pleasure of driving around on the Falken FK-06G's for the last year or so, I have been trying to get some new tyres that actually grip  :D . The only problem, I'm sure most of you mini nuts with 12inch wheels will know, is the lack of decent 12 inch tryes here in Australia :( , I did look into the beautiful Yokies but at around $200+ dollars a corner were out of my price range for the time being.
Anyhoo, I just happened to be reading the latetest Mini Mag from the motherland and low and behold, Falken have brought out a new tyre for the 12 inch , the ZE912, well , it's the first time I've heard of them, so off i trotted to my local tyre shoppe to buy 2 for the front, and I have to say so far they are a 100% better in the wet and dry compared to the old tyre :D , time I suppose will tell, but I'll keep you updated on their performace.

P.s They cost $125 fitted and balanced.

Nice. I've never driven a mini with 12's but if the old falkens are anything like the FK07E then I know your pain!

At least those new ones actually look like a newer more decent tyre to start off with. Glad to hear they have twice the grip of the old ones.

The old ones had nothing. So the new have double nothing?
I run Hankooks......And they're pretty good I reckon.

Thanks Joe, but getting the Yokies for 12 inch wheels seams to be next to impossible, except for a few specialists, and they know how to charge....

New tyres don't cost as much as you think. I bought some new A539's for GBP32.34 each from minispares-online.co.uk.

I got four tyres, a bootliner kit and a few other bits and bobs. I thought the freight was going to blow me out of the water, but it was only GBP103 for the lot.

My little shipment came in with UPS and arrived at my workplace in seven days. 8)

A539's are no longer available anywhere in Australia, i know i had a mate in Yokohama try & find some for me, only other yokie in 12's is the 048.

So im willing to gaurentee you could not find a 165/60/12 yokie Joe!!!

Just checked MiniSpares UK, they will deliver 4x 165/60R12 Yokohama A539's for AU$677.56, which works out at AU$169.39 each. Pretty good considering you can't buy them here...
