Hello all.. Can anyone tell me what engine this is and what it came out of?
All my others either have their capacity embossed into the block or have a plate.. yet this one is different.

Has marking that I think reads "0 6G"


Then has a "10" with what I think reads "137"

probably a 998 out of a clubman.... given it's got an 1 1/2" carb that's been there since the dawn of time

12A497 is the casting number for the block, which identifies it as a 998 or 1100, but we knew that already

but would be easier to identify if you gave the engine number (off the flat bit at the right hand side of the motor where you look at the spark plug holes - 8 digits starting with 10)

Late 998 Clubby motor with smog gear, `77-78 my guess. I own a couple with that prefix.

What does EPAI actually stand for? Is this the type with the air pump and injectors or something screwed into each combustion chamber near the spark plug holes?

M1100 might know.
Anyway that 834AJH is the last 998 prefix we got, it had all the ADR27A air pump & smog control `fruit' on.

Something I thought of today is if we were able to do up a "sticky" of engine, head, gearbox, body numbers of all the different variations which would tell who ever looked at it what year, make and model their item is from.
Would this be possible to try and organise and set up, I think it would make things a lot easier for everyone.

EPAI = Exhaust Port Air Injection. They are the motors with the air pump and the ports in the front of the cylinder head.

The theory being if you pump enough air in there it will dilute the smog coming out the back...

Sounds like a good theory but there is a lot of unknowns that I can't figure out yet.
Take this blokes engine number... 99H834AJH5401. I know that what most of it means but things like the "834" in the number are a bit of a mystery. I know that those three digits are the engine specification code and I know that the 834 is the late motor used in Australia but I don't actually have the info as to what is inside the 834 code.

A difinitve list has been attempted a few times on Ausmini but a combination of unknown variations like Morris just said and people having different theories on numbers has meant they have all ended in disaster . Would be good to have a list of the basic numbers though .

Looks very much like the one i had in an ex RAAF moke of 1980 vintage.
and it was a 998cc had A+ type block.
