The thread on my crankshaft at the pulley end is damaged, does anyone have a 5/8 x 16 tap we could beg, borrow or buy ? i live in the Sutherland shire Sydney and don't think i could live without Charlie for more than a few days  i don't mind traveling a bit to pick it up.

Thanks

isnt that the thread that is really odd and you cant match it because it is really weird (ie not common - generally no god once wrecked)??

The thread in both ends of the crank is 5/8-16TPI. Supposedly it's a UNS thread (neither UNF or UNC).

I had a crank in storage once and wasps made a mud nest in it. I got an old flywheel bolt and ground 4 grooves along it, it worked OK to chase the muck out of the threads.
May not work if threads are physically damaged.

Another method is to get a machine shop to set the crank up in a lathe and chase the threads with a screwcutting tool.
