Post subject:  Anyone warped 7.5" S disks?

Howdy,

Well, as the title says, looks like my disks are warped. There is a vibration (more a wobble) when braking and I can hear in some situations at low speed squeek, nothing squeek, nothing, squeek as the wheel rotates...

Anyone warped their S disks?
Are Vented or crossdrilled 7.5" disks any good or no point?

I know why it happened - well I think I do...

On a 'racetrack' recently I nailed it in 2nd, full boost, third, full boost and hooning along... threw her into 4th and let go of the accelerator pedal then "Holy #$% still revving, still hitting boost and I didnt have my foot on the pedal.
Ok, dont panic, needed to pull her up a bit, soo used the brakes... man, the brakes and motor had a fight for who was stronger I tell you!!! Anyway, shut her off with the key but the turbo timer stays on for 40seconds! Ok, no probs, hit the override and motor was shut off...
All of this happened in seconds... really really fast.

Pull over and found a vacuum hose line had made its way around and stuck between the choke/throttle mechanism and the body of the carby - AT FULLLY OPEN STAGE!


Anyway, holding the brakes at speed for a while say 5 seconds all up, including pulling over I think has warped the disks.

If I can, ill get better rotors - If there are actually BETTER rotors, not just bling 'supposedly better ones'

yep I warped mine, ages ago, I replaced them earlier this year (10 years latter!!!) I didn;t realise that they were warped :shock: just thought I needed to find the squeek But I replaced them with regular ones, as I just do regular driving

Doesn't sound like the problem is with your rotors - they did their job well under harsh conditions =)

I would steer clear of slotted/grooved/drilled discs, they are expensive and many competition brake pads are slotted which allows dirt to flow out. With 7.5" discs you want to be using all the area.

If anything, get the discs/pads cryo-treated or look at 4 pot calipers.

The solid rotors/discs will work fine with a set of 4 spots (they work REALLY well) but for track work as well maybe go for a set of slotted (not slotted and cross drilled as have seen them shatter and not nice things happen to the cars).

I now have a set of metro turbo 8.4 solid discs, 4 spot calipers and green stuff pads and they work sooooo much better than the "s" 7.5" (im not saying 7.5" are no good, just with the way i drive my car i've found the 8.4" etc are a good thing, I also have 12" wheels on my car anyways and now they are filled in nicely) especially with enthusiastic driving!

Ok, so I cant go bigger than 7.5" because I only want to run 10" rims, so it rules out the 8.4's etc...

I will get new standard S rotors and blackstuff pads then... I guess the combination is fine.

4 pots are good I guess, around $900 though but would need metro pads and cut a corner off 2 of them, would rather just stick to the S setup with better pads.

I've had warped ones before... not sure if I did it, or whether it was like that when I got the car.... took 3 years to get around to replacing them anyway

they warp after getting really hot, then stopping, the heat dissipates out of the area where the pads are faster than the rest, and they bend
