Hello fellow mini-ites.

After successfully taking the head off my little delux ( for the first time) i noticed that the gasket and the block were in a very ugly, rusted and cruddy state.Looking at it a little closer i noticed that the holes for the water jacket around the block seemed a little on the blocked side of things.

Wondered if there should be 8 holes on the block for the water to run? The head has the 8 holes buut the block, well as you can see not even close. :? http://www.ausmini.com/

the picture is a little small.... but it looks pretty normal. They are cast iron engines, so there will always be rust in them as long as you're putting water in

What I like to do to flush them out is (after you've put the head back on) take the thermostat out, put the thermostat housing back on, then put a high pressure hose nozzle in the top radiator hose, do up the clamp, and turn the water on full so that it comes out of the bottom radiator hose. Keep the water on till it comes out clean, then do it with the hose in the bottom radiator hose, then from the top again.

seems to dislodge most of the crap - I do the same for the radiator as well - full it with water, put my hand over the inlet and outlet and shake it like hell, then flush both ways
