Hi all

(1) I have 2x hydro subframes
The stepped tower bolts are 5/16" unf at 1 end & 3/8 unf the other.
The 2 subframes are different. 1 has 5/16 the other has 3/8 in the head of the tower.
Which one is right, or it doesnt matter.

(2) Should I fit the studs to the towers & then fit the subframe to the car or fit the subframe then the studs?

(3) should I use the stepped studs or buy some bolts?

Thanks
Craig

I think the original size was 5/16. I'd say someone has stripped and retapped the holes.

All the hydros I have seen have beed 5/16 with a bolt.
Rubber subframes have been 3/8 with the stepped stud.

I have just stripped two front hydro subframes, one from 1972 the other from 1973, and one has the 3/8" and the other 5/16". One had studs, the other bolts so obviously at one stage they were manufactured so and NO they haven't been drilled and tapped.

So, do you reckon it be better to use 3/8 bots or the stepped studs?

I would choose the best looking subframe. Check the displacer mounting lugs up inside the tower. If they are the same, I would use the studs as they may give more support.
