How do I tighten this nut up? See attached picture. I can’t put a spanner on it as the manifold get in the way and I can get a socket on it as the exhaust manifold bends down onto it? Any clues, or does someone want to come and show me? Cheers Aaron |

I use a short 3/8 drive socket and a U/J with ratchet. PITA aren't they! I think the late S manifold is even worse.. ![]() |

It looks like I will be taking off the head anyway, I took the rocker cover off to get a bit more room to maneuver. I found a triangular piece of metal floating around inside…. I want to take the head off and work out where it came from…. With the head off it will make it easier. I will get it all back on out of the car! Yes, a paint to get the bypass hose on, but I have done that before and it’s easy in comparison to the way it is now… Cheers Aaron |

Cheers Aaron I had a similar problem and went to toolworks and bought a Stahlwille 1/2" combination ring/open ender. The ring part is much narrower than my normal Sidchromes. I have also resorted to buying cheap spanners from Bunnings/supercheap etc and grinding them down on the bench grinder so they fit. If it only costs $2 and works twice without breaking, your in front. I've got a couple of spanners cut in half, ground down etc marked "mini" so they don't get thrown out - I'm sure we all have. I can't tell from the photo if it is possible to get a spanner on or not, but if you want to try mine before rushing out and buying one (they're $30) let me know. |

Well, that problem turned out to be the manifold, i had replaced one with a crack. It has a sharper turn in that the old one. So i have grabbed another and popped it on. It's not to pretty with a number of hammer hits applied to it from the prvious owners, but it is on nice and tight and so won't leak exhaust fumes intot eh car... joy. Took the head off and will be checking it over to see if i can find where the bit of metal came from, i'll clean it up and stuff it and the carbs etc all back on at once. Will be back up and running within an hour or two, but that will probably be sometime next week as i couldn't be bnothered to rush it. Gotta love a club plated car! Cheers Aaron |

take it totally out and cluean it with a wire brush. apply some loctight 621 and refit. Let the glue go off then oil the thread and run the nut on. finally remove the nut and wipe bothe nut and thread with cloth to remove standing oil. Should work a treat from here |

besser see post above re using different manifold. I am thinking that the manifold was originally off a single carb setup, as this would allow the space for nut to be tightened. I couldn't even turn it half a flat in the poisition it was in. Anyway, i know that i have a good manifold for the other car when i get around to giving it a bigger exhaust. Cheers Aaron |
