![]() ![]() You could try and tap it out with a screw driver or pin punch and a hammer. |

What is left in the block shouldnt be tight in there so try to unwind it, A stud extractor would be best but see how you go with an appropriate screwdriver or similar. Try not to break the fitting as you dont want any metal in the oil gallery. Best of luck Matt |

be very gentle and dont rush it, im out of ideas mine are both taken. id be very cautious with metal getting into ur galleries all it takes is a nice decent chunk to clog up a bearing shell |

You could, BUT before you put the new fitting in crank the motor with the plugs out so oil comes out and pushes the swarf out. You are treading on thin ice here, be carefull. Dave |

You're going to need to move slowly as rushing around with drill bits and such will end up in sadness. It's a tough one to advise as the aproach will change depending on how much of the bush/easyout is protruding. Carefully tapping the bush around with a fine pin punch and hammer will start it on it's way enough to remove it once it loosens up, or if it is too deep inside the hole you may need to use more drastic means as above...sound like your old man will be able to give you the best option. If you do resort to drilling it out (after all other means fail) you may be able to blow the swarf out by turning then engine over once it's out and letting the oil pressure help with the clean up.. |

As Mick says Mate you are going to have to take this very easy or you could end up in much more trouble than you already find yourself in. I would say you are going to have to drill it out! There are certain techniques for drilling Brass that you may not be aware of. You need to sharpen the drill in a special way to prevent it from grabbing and being uncontrollable as you try to drill down the centre of the existing hole. You need to do to the drill what is known as BACKING IT OFF. You probably won't know what this means so GOOGLE it. You should find a good description. It is a technique used to reduce the rake on the drill so it won't grab on soft materiars like brass and plastics. I would sneek up on the finished diameter which will be the ROOT Diamater of the thread you are drilling out. I.E a drill that will fit neatly into the oil pressure fitting hole in a block with nothing stuck in it. Use several drills in 1/64" incruments until you get there. Make sure they are all backed off. You should then be able to pick the remaining thread out. As Mick said and I said before blow the swarf out with the oil by cranking it over without the gauge in until you get oil out of the hole with no brass in it. Good Luck Dave |
