Rover front number plate

Post subject:  Rover front number plate
How should the front number plate be mounted on the Rover front? Is there a bracket to lift the number plate up and in front of the bumper bar, or does it sit below the bumper?

you need an aluminium mounting bracket.. you will notice those holes will be ther wrong size for the pre drilled number plates holes on the numberplate..

Put it under the bumper, mounted on a hinge.
You can tell the RTA or the law it's so the plate doesn't get bent on gutters,
though we all know its so the wind pushed the plate up on the tollway. :D

my rover front had a spiffy stainless brackety thing on it when i got it, its in the "useless junk" pile!

Mine's just straight onto that bracket under the bumper BUT it got mangled on the entrance to my driveway (steep angle between road and footpath) and it occasionally scrapes on other drives & entrances to car parks.

Mine's on with cable ties at the moment until i get myself a bracket of some sort.

The problem with hinges is that they only work one way if they hit the ground on the way in and out of the drive - the best type would be like restaurant kitchen doors where they hinge both ways and are spring loaded.

Would probably be better with a slightly increased ride height (i reckon mine might be a touch low anyway) OR with a narrower plate like mad-mk1's, mine's too deep, even just an inch would make a difference.

You don't need a magic hinge to back and forth.
Any regular one will do it.

Maybe I'm being technologically/mechanically/physically/engineeringly inept then.

Short of hanging the plate from a hinge where it the entire plate pivots beneath the existing bracket (and therefore will be another inch or two closer to dragging on the ground, hitting pretty much every driveway instead of the odd one), I can't see how a normal hinge will help the plate swing/pivot both forward and back.

Maybe I'm not thinking this through clearly enough.

If there's a simple thing i'm not getting, please explain it as my plate looks awful at the moment hinging by it's cable ties.

don't have one on the front, its slows the car down too much, the one on the back is enough for me, :wink:

Dumb cops always approach me from the rear anyway, don't even look at the front... 8) :twisted: :twisted:

The front one on My Rover was bolted straight onto the brackets on the car and used to lean at about a 20 degree angle back under the car - picked up a $110 fine and 3 demerit points because "it was not vertical" :evil:

Sheeite - mine's not vertical, horizontal or level on any plane. Must sort out a bracket this weekend cos the odds are now that we've hid this discussion, if i ignore it, it'll get picked up.
