Just thinking of getting some sand blasting done,
has anyone on here had a shell & doors blasted and what did it cost you

Thanks

Last quote I got, couple of years back, for the whole shell with doors, bonnet, boot etc. was $500 for the blasting and an extra $300 for red oxide priming. I didn't end up getting it blasted but I wish I had! Would have saved me at least 6 months.

Be very careful who you get to do it and ask to see some finished shells because if they use the wrong blasting medium they can do some major damage to the skins. There is also Sodablasting which won't damage the metal at all but I don't know much about it apart from that.

Cheers,

Gig

Soda blasting in Sydney is $400 a hour, around 4 hours or so to do a shell & panels.

Sand blasting is too rough on panels, bead blasting is better, once it was cheap, now it's not.

Another option is to use paint stripper on the major panels and then have the edges and rust areas sand or bead blasted. This avoids damaging the flat panels and works out a bit cheaper. This has an added advantage of cleaning out your sinises and gives you a high on the fumes.

Glass bead (with a 10 percent garnet mix) inside and out, top to bottom, doors, boot, bonnet and one subframe, all finished in wattyl super etch primer....$750.00

Could have been done for same price in plastic bead at another place. These guys were closer and not so busy.

Nice job, no etching, no warping.

do it do it do it. Ask around however, some blasters are very rough. Paint suppliers are good peple to ask as well as panel beaters, as they have to deal with the aftermath of bad blasters.

When time is at a premium with work and family, the cost is well worth it.

Ring around, and keep asking for references. These guys open shop, close shop, change names, change owners more often than I've had hot dinners. They really are on the move.

I had my van bead blasted twice and the first time was $1500, they put some sort of sealer on it but it only lasts so long... When i did that i rang around a few places and they were all about the same price (was in sydney at the time)
And Josh the blaster i used is just around the corner from enforcer at riverside rd
