Check out all the usual mini suppliers. New wheels and freight isn't nearly as bad as you might think.

I had four new tyres come in with UPS. They were here in seven days and only cost me GBP92.00 for freight door to door.

I got some from MiniSpares Online (Note: Huddersfield Mini Spares, not Minispares.com) and the freight was 120 pounds or so - expensive but landed they were still cheaper than buying them locally and they're not common here (6x12 anthracite-coloured Supalites). Having bought them, I wish I'd picked these ones instead, but still happy with my purchase. Not sure about OZ, but I got stung for GST on importing to NZ; again, still worth it.

A mate of mine bought a set of mambas in the Uk earlier this year, they cost him 90 pounds through the post, posted on a Friday, where here on the following Monday.

Are you buying new or secondhand? If new most mini suppliers in the uk that sell overseas have a freight company they deal with and they usually get a good deal. Air freight is definitely the way to go as sea freight takes 8-12 weeks door to door. And don't forget air freight is billed by weight and sea freight is billed by volume, wheels are comparatively light for their volume (size of package) so cheaper for air and a lot quicker. I have brought a lot of parts from midland wheels over the past year and the UPS freight has always been good, you can get a tracking number from UPS as well so you know where your wheels are at any one time.

^^^ Those 'safety wheels'? Bit weird, aren't they? I can't understand how they work. What's the band supposed to do? Is it supposed to stop the tyre coming off the rim? Wouldn't have thought that would happen much on the road and they don't look like racing wheels. Maybe that's why they're so rare.

Mambas on the other hand: Lovely. Officially lovely.

All I can think of for the safety wheels are there's no lip on the edge of a drop-off like normal so the tyre can't roll off the rim as easily . With the band removed there's a groove to slip the tyre onto like the normal profile but with the band in place it's all smooth so even if the tyres flat the bead stays seated and doesn't flap about the rim . Anyone know any better ?
