I'm a bit like... "It's not a Mini unless it has a Mini engine." But to each his own. I've also heard of people putting twin-cam turbo Swift engines in... |

Don't get me wrong, it cetainly would be quick and beasty, but I dunno... I'm not an "originalist", that is, I don't care if my Mini is modded, but I think there is something in modding the standard Mini engine into something good. Take a look at MiniWorld Magazine or whatever, and you'll see just how freaky these old engines, combined with new technology, can be. If you take away the engine, you take the "Mini" out of a Mini. IMO. |

yep got a 4efte in mine,,, Ive done all the A series things to my mini and just couldnt get the power nor reliabilty i wanted.... Yes people are getting good power from 1300+ motors but it can only go so far, and you still have a fairly week gearbox and not to mention no 5 speed box. (unless you have megga dollars.) I did my conversion as its a daily driver, wanted atleast 200hp, be reliable, and cruise on hwys at less then 3000rpm at 120kph. All the conversion, motor/box, paint, wheels, interior, brakes, engineering, rego etc cost as much as a pretty hot A series (120hp) would cost with a 5 speed box ![]() I know where FatMaserati is coming from as i have a mini matic in the garage too that im building back to its former A series glory, there is a case to say that a mini isnt a mini if it dosnt have the right heart, but you cant go past the bang for your buck in what i did. plus its still only 1300cc ![]() |

i have to disagree with the originality thing, the a series is a hunk of crap. in the mini's prime it wasnt even high tech sure theres worse, air cooled flat 4's from vw's the worst thing about minis is their drum brakes, but then.. its the lack of 5th gear and an all cast iron OHV engine thats noisy, rough and heavy full credit goes to people like 13 sec for keeping the performance mini's alive. |

Also going down the Starlet route. And for same reason as Brad did lots of stuff to the 1275/1310. Irrespecitve of horsepower I was mainly doing it for the 5th gear cruising, the turbo is a bonus. If you want to see the level of effort required check my website...I think it will be worth it (Brad can testify) but equally I am going to drop the 1275 in another Clubby as alot of others have done. Cheers Matt |

Unlike some current throwaway European and Japanese alloy motors, you can actually rebore or resleeve a cast iron one when it's worn.. ![]() |
