well i was driving the other day and my seedo stopped working it said i was going 160km, i didnt think my car could even go that fast, i took the wire off the back it all looked ok and put it back on, the speed moves up and stays at the highest speed then gradually goes down??? has anyone had this problem :S

Also my petrol gauge dosnt work i think it is the floating device in the fuel tank does anyone know where i could get a new one from?

We have an ad in our club for a mob called Southwest Instruments in the Campbelltown area. I've spoken to them on the phone and they sound really helpful. Give them a call and see if they can help you out. I don't have the number on me but i'm sure they're in the phonebook. if not i'll get the number for you later.

Speedo problem most likely broken spring or worn bearing inside speedo head. Professional fix required.
To check fuel gauge disconnect wire from sender in boot. With ignition on gauge should read empty. Connect wire to ground(body) and gauge should read full. If gauge reads full problem is sender in tank. If gauge still reads empty then problem could be gauge or instrument voltage regulator. Volt reg is mounted on back of speedo/instrument panel. Also could be broken or disconnected wire.

Post subject:  speedo and fuel gauge

Hi Daniel,
Saw your car down at the mechanic the other day while my nissan patrol was getting a service.Hope you were happy with him.
As for the fuel gauge it gets 12volts straight off volt regulator which is mounted behind speedo.get a test lamp and see if you have 12 volts at wire on sender unit.If there is 12 volts remove sender unit and check the resistive wire on the arm(ensure fuel tank is nearly empty before removing sender.)
as for speedo theres an instrument man (st george instuments) on th Grande parade at Sans Souci just near the shops at ramsgate rd .

Regards Felix :)

The regulator drops the voltage to 10 volts - and keeps it smooth so that it doesn't fluctuate with the alternator
