How often do you need to apply grease on the grease nipples?

I do it every time I change the oil - doesn't take long

In the old days they used to call it a "grease and oil change" for that very reason

<slinks out to write a note to self to grease the nipples as he didn't do it the last few times  >

Hardest one to get to and most overlooked is the one on the Magic Wand and remote change gear lever on the top back of the diff housing. I bought a long flexible extention for the grease gun to reach down the back of the motor to get to it. You have to watch you don't burn yourself on the exhaust if it's hot.

can someone give a guide to all the grease nipples and how to do it, as i have a feeling that I miss some, or don't do it properly.

I give 2-3 pumps of the grease gun or until the grease oozes out somewhere - wipe off excess so dirt doesn't collect in it

mmm grease nipples

Buy coloured grease like red or blue so you can tell new grease from old. The rear arms need more pumps (sometimes like 5 or 6, Or even 20 if you haven't done them for a long time  )

Technically you should grease all the grease point every oil change. Or be like me, and never grease them ever. And then wonder why the trailing arms bearings collapse. :P

Good idea, David. It never even occurred to me. The hose on my grease gun is less than a foot long and I never even thought of getting a longer hose.

Guess what I'll be getting tomorrow morning. 8)

This grease nipple that you speak of....where is it? I suppose I have made it more difficult to get to by installing LCB's? Do you have a photo (if it's even possible) of where this grease nipple is?

I personally have never really worried about that one as my passport to service states that that grease nipple only needs to be done at "Major overhaul periods only".

Otherwise I do the other grease nipples at least every 3,000 miles but generally about every 1,000miles just cause I can.

It's an angled nipple, on the back of the diff housing of all magic wand and remote boxes. Between the upper and lower selector shaft bushes.

With the extention I mentioned above it takes all of 30 seconds to do and judgeing by the lack of grease and worn bushes in the housing I just overhauled I guess a lot of people don't grease it. For the sake of a bit a grease and 30 seconds it cuts wear and keeps everything working smoothly.

So what is the best way to reach it?

I just tried shoving my hand down the back of the engine from the flywheel/clutch side. Is it best to get it from underneath?

*Sorry for the stupid question but I've only ever seen a rod change box out of a car*

You can't really reach it from underneath . Come down from the top and provided the nipple is angled up the extention of the gun drops onto it - bit of a push to seat it and pump  Haven't done it with LCB in place yet so may have to adapt my technique

NB the extention and rigid nozzle on the gun is about 2 foot 6 inches/75cms overall - heaps of length
