So who is everyone with for their mini breakdown assistance?

Whats recommended over here?

Bungle hasnt let me down yet but dont want to be left in the dark somewhere i dont know.

I'm with RACQ. They have differing levels of roadside assistance but I would assume most mini owners (myself included) would have Ultracare. It costs a bit more than the other levels of care but if worst comes to the worst it automatically includes quite a distance of tow truck rides if you break down :wink:

I'm happy with RACQ as the $$$ spent on tow trucks quickly adds up. That's about all I really use it for TBH. When ever I travel long distances I usually take plenty of spares and tools with me.

I'm with RACQ but in the povo-care version :lol: Will upgrade soon. They include accomodation, taxis home etc in some of their plans

i'll be on RACV total care or whatever it's called..

you can cover the driver, rather than the car.. so any car you're in, you're covered.

I guess it depends on where you'll be driving. If you're only ever gonna be within a few kms from home (or your local trusted mini garage) then the cheapo cover might be enough as it usually give basic recovery up to XX kms (i can't remember what mine is but it's not really very far when you consider how big Sydney is)

The better cover means that you'll be covered miles from home on runs, holiday's, road trips etc, and if you even use it once, it would pay for itself easily.

I only joined when my clutch went and they charged an extra $300 for getting immmediate service.

I called up some tow truck places to see how much to get towed home - whaddayaknow - $300 was the going rate, the membership only costs about $100 in the first place, so one breakdown every three years and it pays for itself.

PS. My NRMA (NSW equivalent for RACQ) cover covered me when I was in the UK last year - didn't pay a thing - broke down on a Bank Holiday Monday on the M6 Toll in our little NIssan 100NX that we'd bought to get us around (we were over for the whole summer) and after a good few international phone calls (still less than having to pay RAC/AA call out rates) we eventually got them to agree to reciprocal cover!!!

Murphy's law ....no matter how many tools or parts you have with you, the part that lets you down will always be the one you dont have parts or the tools to fix it :x

Bear with me - I may be talking bullsh!t here....

Also might be worth comparing if places have options regarding requesting flat-bed tow trucks when you know what the problem is.

I had to wait for a normal patrol to come and confirm that I needed the flat bed before they'd order it in for me. Don't know if any place is better (ie. would they take your word for it that the car cannot be fixed on the spot) but might be worth asking.

Yep, I have a mate in a classic car who has broken down a few times too many. He has no clue so waits an hour for the RACV to come out and make a guess as to the problem, and then another hour for a flatbed.

Often the guesses they make are ridiculous..."It's the points mate..." only to find it's a fuel pump fuse later on....or something stupid.

But for a subsidised flatbed it's not too bad if you get into trouble....

I'm a long-term Total Care member with the RACV. Mainly because it is cheaper for one Total Car membership that covers you for ANY CAR YOU DRIVE than two or three memberships on basic cover for an individual car, which only covers you for that car.

I've never had a problem with the RACV when I have rang up and said "It's broken, the problem is X and I need a tow truck". They always just sent it in that case. They even towed the Jackaroo 96km to Ballarat back to the selling dealer on my say-so.
