a Primary Gear needs rebushing? - Do they usually need doing on a rebuild or if it's bad you just look for another gear?

Try and move it up and down.
Smallbore ones are usually OK.
1275 ones are often loose, front (engine side) bush only.
Easiest way to fix these now is bore or dremel the old one out, then fit a MSC floating bush, available from Minispares UK or Minisport SA.

Thanks Kev,

Not that I think there's a need but in the next few days I'll be finishing off the drop gears and matching the box to the GR built short motor :mrgreen: and KC has a page and a half on replacing the primary gear bushes and it looks a PTA.
