Post subject:  speedo cable issues

Hi guys, am having a little trouble getting the speedo cable out of my clubman. The cable is broken, so I got it disconnected from the actual speedo no worries, but can't get it off the gearbox. WHen the mechanic last had the engine out he obviously WAY overtightened it. And being in the spot it is, I'm sorta stumped as to how to get any tools to it budge it. Does anyone have any tricks or hints they'd be willing to share?

Pull the radiator, then you can get your hand and a pair of multigrips in there from above.

If you have some long pointy nose pliers with a 45 deg angle you can get to it from under the car to loosen it and then go from the top between the bottom rad hose and rad to remove it by hand.

Niceboy,,, if you have (or can get ahold of) a ratchet with a very long extention,,, & a wobble drive with a 7/16th socket on it, then you will be able to get it down there & take the little retaining bolt out that holds it all in there.

That way you will be able to remove the whole lot,--> the retainer, the broken bit of cable, the steel sleave & the speedo drive gear, all in one hit.

Let it be known tho,,, sometimes the steel sleave gets stuck very phucken tight (steel likes to chemically weld itself to alloy) & makes it almost impossible to remove the speedo drive gear,,, on many occasions i`ve had to remove the whole front casing to sort out stuck sleaves... it`s a right mongrel of a job if that ends up happening to you,,,

i wish you good luck
