i recently re painted my mini in acrylic laser blue (bmw mini colour) and the car has had some minor damage which has led me to replace the hole front end from clubby front to rover roundy front. since i was never happy with the shine of the acrylic colour i am goin to re spray the hole car instead of just the front with 2 pack.

so basicly i am asking is it safe for me to paint the 2 pack my self in the shed with a decent masky thing or do i need to get it all preped and ready and get a pro with a proper booth to spray it??

if thats the case is there anyone out there able to do so?? obvously i would pay..

all advice appreticated
cheerz matt.

It is illegal to spray 2k without the proper filters. There are harsh chemicals in it. Pay someone with a proper spray booth to do it for you.

You won't be dissapointed with the shine 2k will give you

We sprayed my engine-bay on the weekend using 2 pak high fill, just by using a "masky thing" with no fan and I live in a unit block!

I recommend a fan, to help clear the mist. We didn't use one but will when we paint the colour.
You in a unit or house?

Would think house would be far less hassle.

Keen to see any pics you've got of the clubbie to roundie conversion.

All the best :!: :D

A mate of mine resprayed mine in the garage, just get all the cars out of the way and open the garage when your finished, just make sure you wear them mask thingys with the proper filter.

Or i think you can hire a proper booth, call shops and see if they can hire it out.

Just don't tell your neighbours that its 2 pak and no one will know.

Without a booth you run the risk of small dust particles settling on the roof & bonnet.
Make sure you spray 3-4 coates of 2 pak clear over it. That way you can buff out the dust.

If you are good enough with a spray gun do it yourself - as long as you have a shed or workshop. Rent an industrial fan and point it out the door and you will have something close to a spray booth, dust is your enemy though so hose down the floor and cover anything else or rig screens out of black plastic sheeting

It's the isocyanates in the hardner that are extremely toxic... and it's not just the fumes, don't get any on your skin - it can be absorbed into your bloodstream.

It's serious stuff with some nasty side effects, but if you want to risk it don't do it around other people... It's illegal for a good reason.

That being said, there's nothing like a 2 pak paint job 8)

I hate totell you all this but it is illegal to spray any type finish at home not just 2 pak, even varnish finishes for wood are supposed to be applied in a proper spray area so don't tell the neighbours your spraying anything unless you get along with them :D

from what i have heard/read, i wouldnt want to even touch 2k paints. theres a place at campbelltown i saw last night that has a sign fr 2000 resparys i dont know what that involves or anything, but i reckon a nice paint finish is not worth death/illness.

that being said, of you still want to go through with it, i would go to a safety place or paint place and buy a respirator with some filters for isocynates, which are available, but have a very short service life.

just do a search in google about safety e.t.c.

I live up the road from a smah repairers that spray 2pak outside of a booth.

Four dogs, including mine have dies from lung cancers. I now dre.ad to think what it has done to my kids

I dont care what kind of breathing gear you have on - do it safely not only for yourself but for everybody around you.

i used to work with 2pak paint every day at work and yeah it really aint good for you. if your going to paint 2pak yourself please buy a really good mask one with paper and charcole filters. the real propblem with breathing in 2pak paint is that cause it takes so long to dry you breath it in when its wet and it sticks to the inside of your lungs. so go ahead paint it at home but wear a mask.
