Afternoon all,

I checked the height of Olli yesterday and noticed that he is sitting at approx 32cm front and 36.5 rear....this is the same on both sides

The manual states that he should be riding at about 34.5 all round (+/-6mm)....

I had a glance at the rear springs and the adjustment appears to be wound out (to lower) as far as it should go.

I have not had the hydro pressure looked at at all.

Any ideas as to why this may be the case and what can be done about it?

Have the Hydrolastic depressurised and then pumped up again with new fluid to the correct height. I’ve done it on my car and being at the proper heights made for a much improved ride - even a few cm made a big improvement.

(PS I hear there’s a CCC technical day in the Mts soon where there is a BMC hydrolastic pump sitting waiting to be used by a BMC product)

But that would mean driving to Syd... :wink: and being a member of the CCC. 8)

I did wonder about that.....

There is a pump here in Canberra that I may just have to convince the owner to use on the car

I never did join the CCC.....damn it......

Do I see you rushing for the car keys to drive to Canberra in the Mini??

Ok, here's the deal....

I will drive Olli to Sydney as soon as

- engine mounts are done
- hydro has been flushed and is sitting correctly
- front seat has been resprung
- LHF door can be opened/locked from inside.....

Don't bother with flushing the hydro. Just pump it up. The reason it is low is because the rubber springs sag after all these years. As you pump it up the front will rise more than the rear as the helper springs will keep pulling the rear down.
If I was going to Canberra I would bring my pump down and top it up for you but I don't have any plans of a trip down there in the near future. :cry:

I have had my seats redone recently. I got the seats out on my 1100 retrimmed and he re-padded the front seat and tightened up the Pirelli webbing (against my instructions!). Now I have to duck my head to see out of the car. :roll: Full retrim of both seats $800.
The seats out of my automatic 1100 have also had a bit of work and new webbing.
The spring in the front seats are Pirelli webbing. It looks like seatbelt webbing but it is stretchy. It is not hard to get the webbing fixed.

The door lock problem could be dried up grease in the door lock or it may be adjustment. (or it could just be shagged!)

Or just get that bastard trimmer to remove the extra bit of foam and loosen the pirelli straps. I told him that the padding was fine but he just had to muck around with it. :evil:

Door is fixed...card taken off today and a squirt here and there with WD40...works like new (and looks like new inside the door too!)

I'll take it to Mick at Melba mtrs and have him put some more fluid in...he can do the engine mounts while he is at it too....

Now, with the helper springs....should I get Mick to adjust them back to normal (1/8") gap?

I have spoken to a place in Canberra to get the seat straps tightened...i don't think the foam is too bad

Only if the car needs it. If it is sitting level I would leave it alone.
When you pump it up the the correct height it will feel like a different car. :D

On the door locks there is a little oil hole that is about the right size for the nozzle of a WD40 can. Use something better than WD40 though. It is good for getting things moving but it is not a good lubricant.

BMC changed the way the seats were put together in about 67/68. They actually made the seats cheaper to make (Hmmm, probably after Leyland took over in 68 ) they removed the roll on the front of the seats and shaped the padding differently and they also used cheaper webbing under the seats. The earlier seats are much more comfortable (at least they were until my trimmer got hold of them :evil: ) and they lasted longer as well.
The later seats always sag and you end up sitting on the frame.

Ok...may take the card of again and put a few drops of sewing machine oil in....

I think my arse is sitting on the frame.... :shock:

Longer lasting? 40 years is pretty good though....

With a bit of luck it will only need the webbing tightened
