Post subject:  good weekend

Worked on the mini this weekend. Removed the engine, cleaned up the front discs, sprayed them and the rear spaced drums ( brembo red) and learned what a bastard undoing bottom balljoints are! Used a ball joint splitter (the type you hit not the scissor type) and a BFH. and it took ages. Does the splitter damage the ball joints? What about the rubbery bit in the ball joint?

It was a good weekend. Didn't break anything. The wost thing that happened was I smacked my self in the face with a big spannerwhen trying to loosen the nuts on the front hilo's. It is funny when I think about it but was a bit painful at the time.

Last time I worked on the mini i snapped the head off a bolt on the rear subframe and dislodged a captured nut... I learned that breaking bolts is not fun.

I am really enjoying rebuilding the subframes and getting my hands dirty. My biggest fear is that I am gonna do something wrong and my car is going to fall apart when I am driving it one day! Ohh well... Only one way to learn

Not really an interesting post but it was a good weekend... what can I say!

I use a scissor type splitter and IMO they are the best. It will split the bottom balljoint easily and painlessly.

The splitter you are using can damage the rubber boot :(

I wish I had a scissor one. I will get one if it makes it easier to split and does not damage the rubber booties.

I just saw this one in stuper cheap and it said mini on it so I purchased it :) :)

Sorry to hear about your drive shafts by the way. How do your tyres go in the wet?

Thanks, yea i struggle for traction in the dry, pretty useless in the wet but OK with a bit of self control. Actually there is no torque steer in the wet  I can easily spin both tires in first and second in the dry

I have the same tyres. I am pretty sure I won't have the same problems as you though :)

My mini is a pussy compared to yours.
