Post subject:  Mounting Mini on trailer
how do you guys mount minis on trailers? I'm thinking of making a metal Arm on a swivel thing and bolt it to the wheel nuts and bolt the otherside to the trailer! that way the car becomes part of the trailer and no straps breaking, and it becomes part of the triailer so no movement so hopefully better and easier to tow! Any suggestions?

In my opinion you want the suspension to work on the car. So mounting it solid will put more shocks through the trailer and the car.

I tie the car down with very high quality tie down straps (2000kg swl)
You need to make sure the car is positioned correctly on the trailer. Too far forward puts too much load on the tow car, too far back and the trailer will sway (this is the mistake most people make) By using adjustable tie downs you can always position the car correctly.

just buy some decent straps. Good thick webbed ones, not the nasty ones u get from bunnings or supercheap as these stretch and snap

As long as the wheel studs are long enough this would be the perfect option.
The cars suspension as well as the trailers springs absorb the bumps and the wheels are solidly mounted so the car stays put!!

I've done that and it worked fine - only used cheap ratchet tie downs but only went a short distance. The car stayed put on the trailer but the suspension of the car was free to move.

In the Uk they use the over the wheel type a lot I believe. I'd really like to try some here, but I've never seen them for sale here. It seems the best way really. I'm not sure how secure a purchase you would get on the few remaining threads on a used wheel stud.

I used to get my load restraints direct from Spanset at Emu Plains.
I got them to specially make the restraints for my race car.

i use the wheels, 1 tie down through and around each wheel, all pulling outwards.

my mates has a winch that he pulled tight right up the front of the trailer with two tyres in front of car that get a it squashed to stop smashing into the front wall, then we use some ratcheting tie-down things

On the front we tie the lower suspension arm towards the front of the trailer, and on the rearwe go from the holes in the rear subframe where the trumpets are.

Both with 50mm, 2000kg ratchet straps with hook-type ends.

This lets the car bounce on its suspension still, and no sharp edges of wheels/subframes etc to damage the webbing.

Works everytime
