Post subject:  What parts do I need for an engine overhaul
Well I am overhauling my gearbox but I know I might as well overhaul the engine as well. The engine is a 1994 auto, it has done roughly 90000KM. So what parts do I need to do the overhauling?

Block
Pistons,
rings
bigend bearings
Main bearings
Cam bearings
oil pump
water pump
lifters
welch plugs
thermostat
double row timing chain and sprockets/gears

Head
Valves (if required)
Valve guides (if required)
Valve springs (double if required)

Machine work
Block.....
hot tanked,
Cleaned
Bored and honed
decked
Head.......
crack tested
pressure tested
Valve seat grind
cleaned
surfaced/decked
Crank.......
grind
straightend
cracktested
Cam......
Re-grind (if required)

Thats all i can think of at the moment im sure i have forgotten lots of stuff but you get that at this time of the morning :!: :D

Twin Cam BMW cyl head & Conversion kit,, turbo & intercooler & a decent manual gearbox & one of my Automatic oil pump adaptor plates to convert the block to manual

that`s all i can think of for now :-)

Minis wear the bores oval over time so just throwing in rings and bearings and the like is a waste of time. You do need to take the engine to a specialist engine reconditioning machine shop. They will do all the measurements and the machining.

Pistons (with rings) are fairly cheap these days and they come in many different grades of quality. The machine place should then give you the option of sourcing them yourself or them just supplying them.

Look at about a thousand dollars for a reco'ed sub assembled block. Extras like balancing and performance stuff is going to cost more.

The cylinder is also probably going to need work and its a good time to get hardened valve seats (exhaust) so you can use unleaded fuel without damaging the valves and seats. Add about four hundred dollars.

Mini engines have two main archilies heels - oval bore wear and worn valve guides. Do it properly and do it once and you will have an engine that will happily spin for another 100,00o kms.

Adding to scott's list Welch Plugs, Oil galley plugs, gasket sets. Associated loctabs. I will make a list of everything I have used I am most of the way through my gearbox and motor overhaul.
