Post subject:  Jet Red!

My spray painter reckons he is having trouble finding the paint code for Jet Red. I've heard it a hundred times that the paint code can be an issue when it comes to mixing it up....

I gave him the colour and the paint code (JET RED (11574)) from http://www.elevenhundred.com/colours.php .

Now if he's having trouble getting the paint code (he is using PPG paints) what is the next step? Is he being lazy, or is there another way of getting the right code to use with PPG?

Mick,

This paint chart (courtesy of other Ausmini members) has the component parts to make Jet Red.

Thanks. Will this work with modern paints still? Has the tints changed or are they still a standard?

I believe the choice of manufacturer can be critical. I chose the Spartan Jet Red which is close, but not close enough. A test sample will probably be wise to prevent costly mistakes and to avoid disappointment.

I just spoke to the painter, he's had to get pretty clunky about the whole process. He is going to mix a batch of Jet Red from the acrylic code and then have it colour matched for 2K PPG.

I've asked for a copy of the printout so once I get it I will addend it to this post, someone else may be able to make use of it....

So the body work is done Mick??

Yeah, all done. It's in primer now and sitting waiting for some colour after a degreasing today. I got some pics last Saturday, but as it is so far away from here (about an hour it takes to get to Ocean Grove) I can't get up to date photos every other day.

I'll throw some pics up in the other thread shortly...

It's been there a few months now...but he got onto it and finished it up. I expected it in December, but will probably get it in the next few weeks. The painter (luke) will deliver it to my door for me which is cool because exams will still be on at that time  It will be hard to study once it's back.
