Hi,
Does anyone have photos or good explanation of what holes, brackets and stuff the police Cooper S had. Where to look on the car so you don't mistake Stereo holes as radio holes, etc.
Thanks

And, not all states had 'em!
For example, I don't think Vic had any S's for pursuit purposes- there was a post in here a while back.

All the NSW police Cooper S were sold just as they were used. They were unmarked and in a variety of colours. For a long while most people would hit the brakes at the first sign of a Cooper S!

All the NSW Police S's were incognito- no signs, fuzz badges, aerials etc. Most were single colour, too.
Most had no Police radio, in the `60s anyway.
But, if there was a dirty big walloper sitting in it, you knew what it was..!

Well most of em were plain colours ("unmarked"), you only knew it was a Cop car when they flashed their lights, whacked the magnetic Blue Flashing light on top (some were fixed) and you heard that awful siren wailing

Cooper S came in many colours beside the standard range...to order

The cops particularly liked white, and `beige or light yellow' (dunno what they called it) ones..
I got done once by the latter, after a good 20 mile run... :P

Morrie...I have it on good authority (ex-Dealer apprentice) that some Police vehicles were special order......out Young way he says they trialled crossflow heads etc towards the end of their life....then gave up and went to GTRs with XU-1 mechanicals etc!!!

I was too young to be pulled up by a Cooper S but I was in the Studebaker when dad was pulled up! It was a cop that was one of his mates and he pulled up dad to ask him the grand final result because the cop "S" never had a radio!

I did get pulled over by an XU1 when I was 9 years old  !

I know the Fiat 124 Sport did 110MPH, `coz the cop told me.. his S topped out at 106 MPH downhill, he stopped me in the traffic at Buladelah, going North...

BTW, back then (late `60s) the Pacific Hwy wasn't speed zoned. Open road limit was 55MPH prima facie limit- if you went faster, you had to be able to prove in court that you were driving safely.
In practice if you contested it properly the cops had to prove their case.. they lost many days tied up in court.
Enter state wide speed zoning.... "Sir, you were clocked doing 30 over the posted limit- that will be $$$... or we'll see you in court."

Hi,
So basically if you don't know the full history of the Cooper S, it is hard to tell if it was a police vehicle.
thanks
