I bough a set contessa 10x5 and put it on the car today. For some reason the right rear the tyre is just touch on the arm. But on the left side there is about 4 mm gap between the tyre and the arm. WHY ????? :(

could possibly be a bent control arm. or subframe bent from a previous accident.

you can't really tell unless you have the two control arms next to each other. ive replaced my for being bent on the left. i got a spare right one that is straight if you would like that if you live locally sydney. its a bit siezed but once you get all the drum and everything of all your parts will swap over on the control arm. im sure more people on the forum will have more stuff for you to check before you go replacing stuff for no reason.

i think spacers are illegal in nsw. but are ok if you have spaced drums like on the clubman s.

where are you :?:
if you are going to fit spacers you will need longer studs

There are 2 types of Contessas, sounds like you may have the narrow LS offset ones, on flat drums. These ones need to be on spacer type drums (Cooper S or Clubby S type).

put straight edge across rim measure down to face of nut plate .
also does the spoke (for want of other description)poke over the edge of the rim or sit back from the rim edge .

Some photo's will really help here , but basically if you look at your lower control arms are they one piece or do they have a couple of large nuts in the middle of them ?
