| Post subject: | Queensland Moulded Car Carpets |
I have been having a look around the forum for carpet threads and have read all the ones I could find. the general discussion seems to be moulded vs 9 piece, however as my car is not a show pony/performance mini, i am considering going with a moulded set. Has anyone purchased a set from the above company at Underwood? If so, are they a reasonably nice fit? I found http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... et&start=0 on how to install moulded carpets so i am pretty set on the 'How To' side of things. Any info would be great! Thanks Jess |

Yes I have used them. Yes they are good would I use them again,,, Prob not Reason.. I have had a 9 piece carpet made, and the fit and finish is 10 times better... But cost was a lot higher as well |

Well I am a bit strapped for cash at the moment & i have mechanical issues that are higher on the priority list to pay for, otherwise i definitely would get a custom set made up , or employ a trimmer to do it properly for me. |

I'm not fussed if it isnt a dead on perfect fit, as lond as it doesnt get in the way of the pedals etc and i am going for loop pile because every single carpet thread has a warning from Mick regardin the balling effect of plush carpet

i had moulded loop in my clubman , it was cheap like the 150 mark and was loop. from a different place to where you are looking at Jess, so possible a different brand aswell. But mine was SCUM!! it went furry and looked horrible after a few weeks. So ask if it goes furry before you buy it, then if it does take it back

I definitely will ask them that Bubbacluby. I have a pug who will be travelling in the mini from time to time (now that it is my only car) and i definitely dont want carpet that will ball up and trap pug hair

Jess, The main problem I can see with the moulded carpet is the fact that it is a big job to get out. You can't simply lift out the front section of the carpet like you can with the original design type. "So what" you might say? Well its all good and fine until it gets wet, which Mini carpet often does for one reason or another, especially when it rains! 
Not being able to get this wet carpet out easily to dry it can cause serious rust that you don't realise is happening because you can't lift the carpet! I have seen this happen to many cars so please consider

Dave, i am currently cursing your name Cherry's carpets are all wet from the rain last night and as they are moulded carpets, i dont have time to pull them out before the formal run tonight 
i am officially turned off the moulded carpet idea, will be getting a 9 or 12 piece one. |

Jess - I'm going to attempt to make my own 9 piece I got a template from Mike and make a copy and a standard good quality sewing machine should handle the binding around the edge. |

Making your own is the cheapest way to go by far, but it's also the most time consuming. As Wombat says, a good quality sewing machine is essential for the edging. They don't need to be expensive though, I picked up an old Singer 99K for $40, and it pushed through three layers of vinyl and the carpet really well. |

Original Coopers had binding around the edges - if you don't care for originality and can't be bothered with that effort you could always take your cut out pieces to a carpet place (trimmers) and get them to do that overlocking stiching around the edges. |
