I'm looking at a 75 "Leyland mini", I'm told it's original but the engine and body numbers don't match what's in the Mini Kings identification list :? . The engine is 99H791P / 108370 and the body is 021D2S 1M09 16741. From the 99H on the engine # I'm guessing it's a 998cc but can anyone offer any more details. Also is it the right engine for the body? and is it just a base model Leyland mini or what?

Buy a copy of the book you tight arse! :lol:

From the book

Leyland Mini Sedan EPAI
CC's- 998
Body Prefix- 021D2S1M09
Engine Prefix- 99H834AJ

Engine 99H791P/108370 seems to relate to either,
Leyland Mini S, or
Leyland Mini Sedan ELC

Hope it helps

What does EPAI stand for?

EPAI has to do with pollution control.

I do have the book but the numbers don't match completely, that's why I'm checking. From what I can tell it matches the "Leyland Mini Sedan ELC" what dose the ELC stand for?

99H791P is the right engine for the car 021D2S1M09.
It works like this...
99 = 998cc
H = Transverse engine
791 = spec of engine (there is a code to decode this but I have never found it!) this gives all the details like compression ratio, type of fuel pump, gear ratios, etc.
P = ? (I can't remember off the top of my head!)

021 = Leyland Mini. (022 = Leyland Mini S)
D = Compliance code D (not important)
2S = 2 door saloon.
1 = trim level 1 = poverty pack Leyland Mini!
M = 4 speed floor change manual transmission.
09 = 998cc

ELC = the imported 998 motor that was used after the local 1100 production stopped in early 75. They are the "791" coded motors. These motors comply to ADR27 for emissions. So these were used from mid 75 to mid 76. ELC probably means Exhaust or Emission L? (lean?) Control but I am only guessing :lol:

EPAI = the later motors from mid 76 that comply to the ADR27A emissions rules. EPAI stands for Exhaust Port Air Injection. These motors have the air pumps. They have the "834" code in the engine number.

Note, there will be a few errors in the above as I am very tired and don't feel like double checking my post. :lol:
