Post subject:  Beaver panel

Does anyone know where there is a good thread on repairing beaver panel? I need to repair the one on my mini but have no clue where to start.

I don't know on a thread, but i am in the process of doing so.
My beaver was damaged badly on one side (filled with bog) and the other was well rusted out, so i concluded i would replace the whole panel.

To remove it i just drilled all the spot welds, and removed it. I havnt welded it back on yet, but im going to clean up the little support corners, and then mount it with some bolts, then tack it into place through the holes that i drilled out, and then weld it all back together through all of the drilled wholes.

If you would like a better description/more photos, PM me.

The English "mini magazine" Issue 137 Autumn 2007 has a full "How To Guide" on Welding repairs to the lower rear panel. It has plenty of pictures in the 4 page spread. If you want my copy PM me.

yeah i think we all know about rusty beavers!
drill the spots, pull it off, mount up a new one, and weld it up. when i put on the new one i also cut out the corner sections (they were pretty bad too) and made up new ones (you can buy new ones) but instead of enclosing them i left the inside edge off so they wouldnt trap dirt & mud and start the rusting process all over again. coated everything then in red oxide primer

Yeah I removed the beaver panel through the drilling process. Drilled pilot holes right around first then finished it off with the larger drill bit. Broke a couple of small cheap bits at the start but got there in the end. I head off for Qld this week for a week so it won't be finished until I get back.
