I have the helicoil kit for a sump plug as I had to do mine. Drill, tap and coil and inserter. Easy peasy job give me a call. probably be easier with sump off the car as fillings will get into the works otherwise

WOW!!!
Who would be stupid enough to pay $4300 to fix a sump-plug.

You could buy and rebuild a whole new motor and put it in for less than that

There is only one mini place in Tassie isnt there?

Some of the UK mini suppliers eg minispares have a tapered sump plug as a temorary fix until you next have your engine out - their advertising implies it could be used repeatedly ie no hurry to get a helicoil

It can be done in the car... with care taken.
Pack the drill flutes with grease to stop shavings going in. Don't drill too fast.
Same with the tap, pack with grease.
Then put the helicoil and plug in, pour 2 or 3 litres of fresh oil in there.
Undo the plug, the oil will flush out any swarf left.

TAP IT STRAIGHT or the copper washer won't seal it....

Bubbaclubby, there probably is only one mini specialist in Tas, Willson Automotive in Hobart, and I would bet my left one they aren't the ones responsible. Unless of course I have them all wrong and they only look after me and rip everyone else blind! :)
