I think that not all boxes are interchangeable, whilst most of the internals are similar, there is more metal on the small bore ones which can interfere with the crank. Best to do a trial fit to make sure first... I think the Doc can probably add more on this. |

If You are fitting a 4 speed syncro gearbox it will fit onto a 1275, 998 & 1100 if it is a 3 speed Syncro then let us Know the number CAST into the front of the gearbox |

They actually made OHC engines. But not more than a hand full. They even made some alloy 998 engines. One of the OHC engines is still in use, thought. http://aronline.co.uk/images/engineaseries_08.jpg But propably was too cost intensive to put in to production. |

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people! And your question wasn't stupid at all, it was a very good one - especially if you didn't know the answer! |

The one on the left is a variant of the E series, the one on the right is the Over head cam A series ![]() here it is again with a couple of webers ![]() & here is the over head cam Oseries which probably would have taken over the role of the aging old B series ![]() I`d dearly Love to find a few of any of these engines laying around in some ones old farm shed, that`d be pretty cool find hey? |

Nothing wrong with a well designed pushrod motor. Look at a Gen 3 on Chev V8 for example, Ford's quad OHC V8 still can't catch it for HP and torque.. (says me, and I'm a Ford man)... I drove a twincam Fiat 124 Sport for years, my current 1360 pushrod Mini motor has more power, more torque, and a power band twice as wide.. ![]() |
